Job definition: AwareShoe, intelligent shoeware for diabetic patients (Vacancy nr. 23.96.06) Research area: The main goal of AwareShoe is to develop methods and protocols for generating automated persuasive messages that must entice patients to adhere to a strict exercise scheme, taking profit from rich but difficult to interpret telemetric data about the behavior of individual patients, in combination with information on the personality of the patients. In this PhD project we will develop the technology that is needed to interpret the signals generated by the sensors built into the shoes that the outpatients will wear. In addition to a reliable and operational surveillance system this project will also deliver best practice guidelines for effectively developing similar mobile health surveillance systems in other domains than diabetes. In addition, we will investigate issues related to scalability and the quality-of-service of telemetric health monitoring systems.
